Little Vumbura Camp Okavango Delta

Little Vumbura is a Classic Wilderness Camp well known for its spectacular and diverse wildlife sightings. Shaded by a forest canopy, Little Vumbura camp offers a perfect all-round experience that affords the safari enthusiast the opportunity to enjoy both water and land activities on the concession floodplains. Six luxury tents with private decks boast incredible scenic vistas and together with a well - situated star deck make this particular camp well worth visiting.

Little Vumbura is an intimate and luxurious safari camp situated in the beautiful Vumbura Concession of the Okavango delta. One of the most sought- after, smaller camps in the Delta, Little Vumbura offers a land and water safari experience year – round with superb game viewing. The six well-appointed tents each have en-suite facilities and a private plunge pool and reading deck lead off over the water from the dining area to overlook the surrounding floodplains.

Little Vumbura offers a wide range of activities. Being surrounded by water and lying close to large rivers, mokoro excursions across the floodplains and motorboating within the permanent channels are a quintessential experience of a Little Vumbura stay. Game drives in open Land Rovers explore the savannah areas which are ideal for coveted sightings of species such as lion, leopard, and wild dog within the Okavango Delta. Should qualified walking guides be available at your specified time of travel, then one has the opportunity to accompany the guides on game walks within the concession. The various activities offered by the camp ensure that the guest can enjoy fantastic birding throughout the year on the water, on foot or by 4×4.

This private concession comprises 90 000 hectares (220 000 acres) which is shared with its sister camp Vumbura Plains. Vegetation is varied and ranges from open floodplains to dense mopane woodland with permanent swamp and island habitats abounding with beautiful islands and surrounded by permanent waterways created both by local summer rains and the annual winter floodwaters of the Okavango Delta.

The area surrounding Little Vumbura camp features annually flooded grasslands (referred to locally as ‘melapo’) and offers good seasonal game viewing. Species seen regularly include elephant, giraffe, impala, sable antelope, kudu, zebra, common waterbuck and reedbuck, tsessebe, wildebeest, red lechwe and Cape buffalo. Predators include the African wild dog, several resident prides of lion, as well as leopard, cheetah and African wildcat. The waterways are home to pods of Hippo and basks of crocodile. Productive game drives often excite guests with a large variety of wildlife, and this begins from the minute the guests depart on their initial game drive transfer from the airstrip to the camp itself.

Leased from five villages (Okavango Community Trust) the Vumbura Concession is a partnership which ensures that the benefits of ecotourism are shared with rural stakeholders.
